His career began as an illustrator. He has since then been involvd in the production of a wide range of design works, such as graphic textile, interior objects, architecure, ships, and railway vehicles. Since 1988, he has taken up designing JR Kyushu trains and stations. He has won awards nationally and internationally. He has won “Brunel Award”, which is an international rail design award, four times in the past for designs of long-distance passenger trains including “Tsubame (Series 787),” “Sonic (Series 883),” and “Kamome (Series 815),” as well as short-distance train (Series 815). He has also been awarded for graphic and uniform designs. Recently, he has taken up engineering design for the Kyushu bullet train “Tsubame.” His recent publications include “I am the designer of ’Tsubame (written in Japanese) (Koudansha)” and “Design On Tour (written in Japanese) (Shougakkan).”
